With 14 arches rising to a height of around 60 feet, John O'Gaunt's impressive viaduct today looks rather sorry for itself. The original red brick is badly spalled and has seen extensive patching with more durable blue engineering brick. This gives the structure an unusual mottled appearance from a distance. Despite this, its condition remains poor and you are advised not to stand beneath it for too long!
