Kielder Viaduct was built in 1862 as part of the Border Counties Railway. Designed by Peter Nicholson (a pioneering geometrician), it was built in a Baronial style with a castellated parapet and false arrow slits. The arches are built at a skewed angle - thus each stone had to be individually shaped. The structure is now a Scheduled Monument and forms part of a footpath.
