Thornton viaduct opened in 1878 as part of the Great Northern Route from Queensbury to Keighley - arguably, the most engineered section of railway in West Yorkshire. It is Grade II listed and its 300 yard length has a unique S-shaped curve.

It recently had its deck upgraded in preparation for its inclusion in the Great Northern Trail, which follows part of the old Queensbury-Keighley trackbed.
