Info

The Minsters' Rail Campaign exists to promote the economic, social and environmental case for reopening the railway line between Beverley and York as a modern resource for passengers, arguing that the railway was unfairly closed and that East Yorkshire's roads - particularly the A1079 - are struggling to cope with increasing traffic to and from Hull.

Support

Relevant county and unitary authorities; politicians from all parties

Route Status

Trackbed sold off piecemeal to local landowners but mostly intact in rural areas. Irreversibly developed for housing in some built-up areas - new alignments would be required.

Project Status

Feasibility study conducted for East Riding of Yorkshire Council by Carl Bro Group in 2004. It concluded that the line’s reopening was viable both economically and in terms of engineering. The council’s Transport Development Plan (2006) safeguarded new alignments around Pocklington and Stamford Bridge.
