Wheatley Tunnel

Passenger services on the Halifax High Level Railway only lasted 27 years but goods traffic continued until 1960. Wheatley was the only tunnel on this three-mile branch. At 819 yards, it was not insubstantial in engineering terms. Bricked lined and with many refuges, the eastern portal is now buried and many of those refuges bricked-up, presumably to provide additional support for the lining.
